In 2002 and 2003 a group of parents and teachers from Clayton County came together to produce Kaleidoscope: A Multicultural Celebration of Literature and Arts events for two years with the support and help of Clayton County Schools, Clayton County Library, community stakeholders, businesses and eight Clayton County PTAs.
The planning committee consisted of 15 parents and community leaders who developed a program to introduce youth, teachers and parents to a network of 40 local authors, ten poets, local artist, entertainers, 20 storytellers and a host of book vendors to encourage reading, writing, meeting local authors and support for family literacy activities in Clayton County. Events were held at Mount Zion High School and Riverdale High School. The events were successful with more than 200-300 youth and families attending.
